Here's why Hank Haney was at the PGA Show preaching the gospel of... PICKLEBALL?!

ORLANDO — The most interesting thing I saw at the PGA Merchandise Show wasn’t a hands-free push cart, virtual-reality golf goggles or even that hulking robotic swing-groover thingy endorsed by — who else? — Bryson DeChambeau.

Nope, the most interesting thing I saw was Hank Haney playing pickleball.

There was Tiger Woods’s former coach in a fenced-in court at the northern end of the Orange County Convention Center Thursday afternoon, exhibiting an impressive arsenal of drives, dinks, punches and poaches. For the first time, paddle-sport vendors showed off their wares on the sprawling floor of the PGA Show, and Haney — on hand to help promote his friends’ racket business — played the role of crossover star

2018 Pickleball Rocks Player of the Year Announced

During the year, people throughout Pickleball Nation email us or use our NominateAPlayer.com website to tell us about their favorite players. They tell us about players who have dominated in tournament play, but many times they also tell us about players who have had tremendous impacts on their communities or towns or even the game of pickleball overall.  (We really like those.)

Throughout the year we may recognize a player, club or community of the month, or we may give a simple Facebook shout out. They are all deserving.  But once a year, we pull together all the nominations and feedback, to finally determine who is most deserving to be called the Pickleball Rocks Player of the Year.

It’s certainly not an easy task.

HUB Sports Center Buys Back Facility from INWCF
February 22, 2018
SPOKANE, Wash. — Inland Northwest Community Foundation (INWCF) announced today that it has sold the HUB Sports Center building in Liberty Lake, Wash., back to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which has been operating the multi-purpose facility and its programs since 2007.

In 2011, an anonymous donor created a fund at INWCF to support youth programs and other charitable causes in the community. The donor requested that the fund’s first disbursement be used to purchase the HUB building. This coincided with the HUB’s operations reaching a breakeven point.

INWCF established a supporting organization to buy the 66,000-square-foot facility in 2012 for $3.2 million, with the intention of giving the HUB time to raise funds to eventually purchase the building. This funding plan provided the HUB the security to accelerate its growth and outreach programs.

“In the early years, the HUB was surviving month to month,” said Phil Champlin, executive director of the HUB, which works to positively impact youth through sports and other programs and events. “This donor provided the opportunity for us to solidify our operations while raising the money we needed to own our building. We’ve been able to achieve positive cash flow for six consecutive years, grow our services and programs, and become financially stable.”
